Husbandry

Here at Zebedee Cavies, we believe that keeping cavies the way we do helps them to thrive to their best.

We do understand that everybody does things their way and that is fine by us too but it may affect the health of the cavies in the future.

We use breeder hutch blocks which can be altered to suit the number of cavies living in that environment. We also have some Plaza 160 cages that suit the young sows we are running on.

We use puppy pads to line the base then a thick layer of shavings on top. We are currently using Pure Flake which is a larger flaked shaving and dust extracted.

On top of that, we pile in the hay. We do not use hay racks or balls as they can cause harm, injury or death as the cavy may become stuck. Hay should be piled in as this is the most important part of their diet.
